When the temperatures dip and summer is long in the rear-view mirror, we tend to lose track of some good habits when it comes to our air conditioning and heating equipment – especially when the weather is mild and we don’t have to run it very often. That’s understandable. Out of sight, out of mind…right? Here at Elmer’s One Hour Air, we’d like to challenge you to be different, though! Maintaining those healthy HVAC habits year-round ensures your equipment will continue to run effectively and efficiently all 12 months – and not just in summer when we need it most. Let’s start with the fall tune-up. Many homeowners don’t think twice about getting a tune-up before the summer months, but they often neglect the heater before cool weather arrives. It’s just as important (and possibly more so) to have a professional come to your home and inspect your system before you begin using your heater. This is especially important regarding carbon monoxide in your home, which can be deadly. A fall tune-up can help you avoid costly a heater repair down the road. Another thing to keep in mind during the winter months is regularly changing your air filter. If you don’t run your heater very often, you can likely get away with changing your filter every 1-2 months during non-peak usage. If you like your heater to keep your home warm and toasty, make sure to check your filter every couple of weeks. If it’s dirty, go ahead and change it. Don’t neglect your HVAC system during these non-summer months! When you need it, you will appreciate it working properly.
